At least one auto-driver has died and many others have suffered injuries after a Porsche car rammed through several parked auto-rickshaws on RK Salai in Chennai in the wee hours of Monday.  

Behind the wheels of the Porsche Cayenne was 22-year-old Vikash Anand, a racer and a student from Chennai. According to reports, the driver who was allegedly drunk, hit a median and lost control. While Vikash has been arrested by the police, 29-year-old auto driver, Arumgam, died at the General Hospital in Chennai a short while later.

Nine others victims were admitted at the Royapettah General Hospital and have been discharged. 

Vikash Anand, a professional racer was recently in the news for winning the premier title in the MRF Formula 1600 category. His father is Vijay Anand, a High Court lawyer and member of the Madras Bar Association, who is not practising any more. Vikash's friend, Charan Kumar, was also allegedly in the car at the time of the accident. Chennai police has confirmed the arrest of the driver.

Arumugam's wife had allegedly committed suicide a month ago and he died leaving behind two children. "I don't know what answer to give his daughter. How can we take care of this girl - she has no mother or father now. What's the value of a life? If they give me money can I give an answer To his daughter? His auto is so damaged, it's only fit to be thrown into the garbage," Vinayak, brother of Arumugam told TNM.

In July this year, a woman driving an Audi, also allegedly drunk, killed a 45-year-old man while speeding on OMR in Chennai.
