In Public Interest: Aviation industry is 100% compromised says Captain Mohan Ranganathan | Air India

The tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of 290 people, has once again exposed deep-rooted lapses in India’s aviation safety ecosystem. In the wake of the disaster, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have scrambled to address glaring failures. The DGCA has suspended three senior executives responsible for flight crew rostering and issued a strong warning that Air India’s operating licence could be revoked if similar violations are found in future audits or inspections. DGCA’s ongoing airport and airline surveillance has also uncovered serious safety lapses, further raising alarm. While the full investigation report is yet to be released, preliminary findings made available to the media point to systemic issues at multiple levels. In this week’s episode of In Public Interest, TNM’s Shabbir Ahmed speaks to aviation safety expert Captain Mohan Ranganathan to understand whether passenger safety is being neglected in India’s booming aviation sector, and if a culture of complacency is putting lives at risk.
