In Public Interest: Shocking Negligence by Southern Railways and the Cover-Up | Cuddalore Mishap
On July 8, at the Semmankuppam railway gate in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district, a school van was hit by a passenger train, killing three students. The Southern Railway was quick to deflect the blame, first on the van driver, then on the gatekeeper, and even on the Cuddalore District Collector.
But as TNM accessed investigation findings, the gatekeeper admitted to not closing the gate, contradicting the Southern Railway’s claims.
Why did the Railway rush to deflect blame, even before the facts were clear? What is wrong in the Railways department and why are there too many accidents happening across the years?
In this episode of In Public Interest, TNM News Editor Shabbir Ahmed asks the tough questions the Indian Railways want to avoid, and exposes the systematic failures that led to this avoidable tragedy.
