Can hip-hop change the climate conversation?
What does climate change sound like? For these artists, it sounds like rap, regional music and stories of the places they call home.
The Climate Emergency Mixtape brings together young rap artists from across India to talk about climate change through music. From excessive mining threatening the Konkan region in Maharashtra to the loss of hills in Haryana, their songs bring local environmental struggles into the climate conversation.
Many of these artists also use music to speak about caste, gender and inequality. Their work shows why climate change is not just about rising temperatures. It is also about land, livelihoods, displacement and who bears the greatest cost.
Watch how these artists are putting the climate crisis to a beat.
