Three workers dead after lift snaps at Hyderabad’s Jawaharnagar dumpyard power plant

Three workers fell from a height and lost their lives while working at the construction site of the Jawaharnagar dumpyard's waste-to-energy plant on May 7, Wednesday. The incident took place when the three workers fell from a height of about 40 feet, from a makeshift lift operated with a pulley mechanism, when its rope snapped. 

The three workers, all natives of Uttar Pradesh in their 20s, were identified as Suraj Sarkar, Mandal Prakash, and Amit Roy, The Times of India reported. They were working on a chimney shaft at phase II of the power plant, which is being developed by Hyderabad MSW Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd (HMESPL). 

Jawaharnagar police said that the temporary lift from which the workers fell had been built to work on an 80-metre-high chimney, according to The Hindu. 

Jawaharnagar Inspector of Police S Saidaiah said that investigation is underway to understand if the accident was caused by negligence. 

HMESPL issued a statement saying an investigation by experts is underway, and extending support to the families of the deceased workers.
