The Telangana government aims to get its own satellite in space, to televise its content, IT Minister KT Rama Rao told reporters in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
"Today, we are broadcasting two channels by using satellite technology. But, eventually the goal is...not today...that day will come sometime in the future. We should have our own special satellite in the orbit. Through that satellite, if necessary, the state government would work actively (on) some 10 to 12 channels. Today, we see the developments in society. We see the impact of western culture. We can do many types of programmes on behalf of the government," PTI quoted him as saying.
KTR was addressing a gathering at the launch of the T-SAT network, operated with the backing of the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication.
The network broadcasts two channels, Vidya and Nipuna, which focuses on topics like agriculture, rural development, healthcare, distance learning and e-governance.
The network will handle content that used to be broadcasted under 'Mana TV' in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking about the satellite, KTR also mentioned ISRO's recent feat of launching a record 104 satellites in a single mission.
Minister for Agriculture Pocharam Srinivas Reddy was quoted as saying, "Programmes in T-SAT should have a mix of agricultural language with technology. These programmes will help farmers harvest a good yield and also reduce their debt.”
Others present at the event included the state's Health Minister C Laxma Reddy IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society Secretary RS Praveen Kumar and Director of National Remote Sensing Centre YVN Krishna Murthy.
