Senior IAS officer Jayesh Ranjan has said that he plans to seek voluntary retirement from civil services nine months ahead of his scheduled retirement. Jayesh is currently serving as Special Chief Secretary for Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority Area (HMDA).

Speaking to TNM, Jayesh said that he will be applying for VRS in January 2027, ahead of his actual retirement in September. “I have nothing planned as things stand but I'm looking for opportunities beyond government work,” he said.

His exit comes months after he was considered for the post of Telangana Chief Secretary in June 2026. The Congress led Telangana government ultimately appointed Sanjay Jaju to the position.

Jayesh’s recent career has been marked by a series of changes in responsibilities. In December 2025, the Telangana government reassigned him from his role as Special Chief Secretary and CEO of the Industry and Investment Cell in the Chief Minister’s Office to head the Metropolitan Area and Urban Development portfolio covering the HMDA region.

The reshuffle, announced on December 25, also saw him retain additional responsibilities as Special Chief Secretary for Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture (YAT&C), Sports, and Director of Archaeology.

Meanwhile, K Ramakrishna Rao continued as Special Chief Secretary and CEO of the Foreign Affairs Committee (FAC) for the Industry and Investment Cell, as well as the Smart Proactive Efficient and Effective Delivery (SPEED) initiative.

These changes followed another significant reshuffle in April 2025, when Jayesh was moved out of the Industries and Information Technology portfolio. Rao took over that assignment, while Jayesh was given responsibilities in the Chief Minister’s Office, including leadership of the Industry and Investment Cell and SPEED.
