Schools and colleges across Telangana remained closed on Wednesday, July 23, following a statewide bandh called by various Left-affiliated student organisations. The bandh was led by groups such as SFI, AISF, PDSU, AIDSO, AISB, AIFDS, and AIPSU, demanding immediate government action on key issues related to the education sector.
The students urged the state government to appoint a dedicated Minister for the Education Department without further delay. They also pressed for legislation to regulate fees in private and corporate educational institutions.
Among their demands were the immediate recruitment of vacant posts for teachers, Mandal and District Education Officers (MEOs and DEOs), lecturers, and principals. They also called for the construction of permanent buildings for welfare residential schools and hostels that are currently operating out of rented premises.
Additional demands included repealing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, passing a resolution in the state Assembly against its implementation, and the release of pending scholarships, fee reimbursements, and mess and cosmetic charges.
Following the bandh announcement, private school and college managements informed parents on Tuesday evening not to send their children to school, confirming that classes would remain suspended on Wednesday.
