The Telangana government has decided to release fee reimbursement funds in advance from the current academic year to ensure that students do not face difficulties in obtaining their certificates because of delays in payment.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said Rs 2400 crore has been allocated for the programme, including Rs 250 crore towards advance payments. The government will provide around Rs 2300 crore every year for fee reimbursement, he said, urging eligible students to apply online so that the money can be directly credited to their accounts.
Speaking at a programme held on Friday, August 14, to unveil the statues of social reformers Mahatma Jyothirao Phule and Savitri Phule, CM Revanth said his government was pursuing a series of reforms aimed at transforming the education system.
As part of its skill-development efforts, the government is upgrading Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) in partnership with the Tata Group. Students enrolled in these centres will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 2000 while undergoing technical and skill-based training designed to improve their employability.
The Chief Minister also criticised the previous BRS government, alleging that it did not adequately encourage education among weaker and marginalised sections. He said the present government was working to expand educational and employment opportunities for backward classes and other disadvantaged communities.
CM Revanth also highlighted the Congress government's initiatives on Scheduled Caste categorisation and the caste census. He listed various measures undertaken by his government and appealed to the backward classes to support its continuation.
