Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday, September 21, sanctioned financial assistance to the families of two persons associated with the Telangana statehood movement, extending government support on humanitarian grounds.
The CM directed officials to provide Rs 10 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to the legal heirs of Lingala Kedari and his wife Pushpalatha, who died in separate incidents earlier this month. The Hanumakonda Collector has been asked to ensure that the sanctioned amount reaches the eligible beneficiaries.
The couple, residents of Shantinagar–Postal Colony in Hanumakonda, had supported activists during the separate Telangana movement. While running a small hotel, they provided free meals, tiffins and tea to participants in the movement. They were also involved in creating awareness about preventing food wastage and encouraging people to respect food.
Kedari died on September 9, while Pushpalatha passed away the next day.
In another case, CM Revanth sanctioned Rs 5 lakh to the family of Mandala Raju, who went missing during the Telangana statehood movement in 2013. Raju, 34, was the son of Mandala Sammi Reddy of Gorleaveedu village in Jayashankar-Bhupalpally district.
According to a representation submitted by Bhupalpally MLA Gandra Satyanarayana Rao, Raju had actively participated in the movement and was arrested and lodged in Cherlapally Central Prison before he went missing on June 20, 2013.
Responding to the MLA’s request, the Chief Minister directed officials to extend assistance to Sammi Reddy under the Telangana martyrs’ quota.
