Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has decided to drop Konda Surekha from the Cabinet. The move comes after CM Revanth and Surekha both visited Delhi and met with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other party leaders. A recommendation to this effect has already been sent to the Governor, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Surekha had faced action from the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC)’s disciplinary committee after her daughter, Susmita, made critical remarks against CM Revanth in August, for the second time in a year.
Surekha held the Environment & Forests and Endowment portfolios. She was one of two women Ministers in the Cabinet, along with Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka), who holds the Panchayat Raj & Rural Development and Women & Child Welfare portfolios.
The current strength of the Telangana Cabinet is 16, including the Chief Minister, against the maximum permitted strength of 18.
The Chief Minister has also decided to rescind the appointment of G Chinna Reddy as Vice Chairman, Telangana Planning Board. Chinna Reddy had also faced action from the disciplinary committee for threatening to revolt against the party leadership, lashing out at CM Revanth for not being given a ticket from Wanaparthy in the 2023 Assembly elections.
He will be replaced by Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, who is currently chairperson of the Telangana State Women‘s Commission and former Mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
Nerella Sharada will return as the Women’s Commission chairperson in Vijayalakshmi’s place.
Surekha’s daughter Susmita, who was aspiring to contest the next Assembly election from Parkal constituency in her family’s stronghold of Warangal district, was upset over the Chief Minister’s announcement that the sitting MLA, Revuri Prakash Reddy, 74, would seek re-election from the constituency.
Susmita questioned Revanth’s authority to decide who would receive a Congress ticket, and also brought up recent allegations of corruption against him over subsidised land allotted to a company run by his brother, Kondal Reddy.

While Surekha had apologised to Revanth for her daughter’s similar critical remarks in an earlier episode in 2025, this time, she said that she must not be held responsible for Susmita’s remarks.
