The Suryapet police are on the lookout for a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP) after he conducted a botched abortion surgery which led to the death of a 28-year old woman. The victim, Vijaytha was five months pregnant when she approached the RMP on August 16, seeking an abortion.

According to the police, Bandi Srinivas, the accused, has been running Sai Balaji Hospital in Tungaturthi for a few years despite having no qualifications. He operated on Vijaytha despite not having the necessary equipment.

During the operation, Vijaytha’s condition worsened and post her demise on Saturday afternoon, her husband approached the police to get his complaint registered on Sunday, August 17.

Speaking to TNM, Tungaturthi circle inspector A Narsimha Rao said that a case has been registered under the Medical Termination Act (MTP) of 2021. “The forensics department of Suryapet has conducted a postmortem along with a team of gynecologists. We are currently on the look out for Srinivas and investigation is ongoing,” he added.

In related news, a 22-year old woman residing in Hyderabad’s Kharkhana died at a private hospital in Balajinagar. The victim, who was four months pregnant, had consumed abortion tablets which led to severe bleeding resulting in her demise. A case has been registered under Section 194 (Unnatural death) of Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
