Panic gripped residents of an apartment complex in Hyderabad’s Manikonda after six burglars, wearing gloves, shorts and vests and covering their faces, cut through the fencing and entered the premises early on Monday, September 28.
The incident occurred at Flotilla Apartments in Neknampur, under the Narsingi police station limits, at around 3.20 am. According to preliminary information, the suspects cut through the fencing on the lakeside of the apartment complex to gain entry.
CCTV footage shows the burglars entering C Block and using the staircase to reach a flat, where they stole reportedly valuables. According to reports, when a resident confronted them, the suspects allegedly threatened and attempted to attack the person with weapons before fleeing the premises. The surveillance video shows the burglars running down the stairs.
Police reached the apartment complex after receiving information about the incident and collected details from the residents. They are examining CCTV footage from the apartment and surrounding areas to identify the suspects and trace their movements.
The value of the stolen property has not yet been ascertained.
Following the incident, residents of Neknampur, Manikonda and Alkapur Township have urged the police to intensify night-time patrolling in the area, particularly around residential communities, to prevent similar incidents.
Based on the style of the burglary, many have described the crime as committed by ‘Chaddi gang’, which is a term commonly used by police and the media to describe burglary suspects who wear minimal clothing and cover their faces while carrying out thefts.
The term does not necessarily refer to a single organised gang, with different burglary groups reported to have used similar methods in parts of India.
Some of these armed robbers are interstate thieves who escape to their hometown after committing the crime and evade the police.
