The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken serious note of allegations of custodial violence against a minor by the Jubilee Hills police, who was detained in connection with a voyeurism case.

The SHRC has summoned the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police to appear before it on August 12 with all relevant records, noting that the police have not yet submitted a report. It has also directed the Superintendent of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) to ensure the victim, identified as Ajith, receives appropriate treatment and to submit a detailed health report within 48 hours.

According to the complaint, Ajith, then 17, was illegally detained and tortured by Jubilee Hills police between December 15 and 17, 2024, resulting in paralysis. The teen was reportedly picked up after a man complained that he had attempted to film him and his wife while they were bathing, through the ventilator of their bathroom.

Police seized the boy’s phone and booked him under Section 77 (voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In July, the Jubilee Hills police denied the allegations made by Ajith’s father. They claimed the boy continued attending school for the remainder of the academic year and that his medical treatment after detention was for unrelated health issues. The police further alleged that the complaint was an attempt to obstruct legal proceedings in the case.
