The North Zone police in Hyderabad has identified several people involved in the mob violence at the Marredpally police station on Tuesday that saw hundreds of people burning files and destroying police property.

People earlier took to the streets after the death of 35-year-old Bonappa over alleged custodial torture and ransacked the police station.

According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, the city police is likely to arrest more than 50 people from Gandhinagar, West Marredpally, where Bonappa lived with his family.

Police claimed that Bonappa was inebriated as it was the Bonalu festival and was dancing with a procession when he picked a fight with a home guard. They kept him at the police station overnight and released him the next morning.

However, Bonappa's family has alleged that the police had brutally beaten him up on Sunday night, leaving him with internal injuries, which ultimately resulted in his death.

The case has been handed over to the Central Crime Station in Hyderabad for further investigation, while the police remains clueless about the quantity of data that has been lost.

The police reviewed CCTV footage from cameras nearby to identify the suspects.
