Strong winds and rain led to the partial collapse of the roof at the entrance of Hyderabad’s newly inaugurated Charlapalli railway terminal on Saturday evening, May 3. The terminal, which was inaugurated just four months ago in January 2025 and was built at a cost of Rs 413 crore, suffered structural damage under the weather conditions. No injuries were reported.

Videos of the incident quickly went viral, prompting opposition leaders to question the quality of construction.

Sharing a video of the incident, BRS leader Manne Krishank wrote, “Slight wind damages recently opened Charlapally Railway Station in Telangana which was inaugurated by Shri PM Modi…”

In a subsequent tweet he expressed that fortunately no people were injured. He highlighted that the newly constructed railway station inaugurated by the Prime Minister just four months ago.

The Charlapalli Railway Terminal was developed to alleviate congestion at Hyderabad’s primary railway stations—Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda. South Central Railway has boasted of the station’s “airport-like” amenities, such as spacious concourse areas, illuminated facades, foot-over-bridges, lifts, escalators, separate waiting halls for men and women, an ‘upper-class waiting area’, an executive lounge, a cafeteria, and a restaurant.

Located near the Outer Ring Road, the terminal was expected to serve approximately 50,000 passengers daily, enhancing connectivity to the city’s outskirts and supporting regional development.
