Cyberabad Police have arrested a 16-year-old girl for allegedly killing her mother with the help of her boyfriend and his minor brother. Police said that the daughter was upset with her mother for opposing her relationship. They also said that the daughter alleged abuse and ill-treatment by her mother.

The girl’s mother, Satla Anjali (39), was found dead in her house in New LB Nagar, Shapurnagar, under the limits of Jeedimetla Police Station, on the night of Monday, June 23. Anjali was a folk singer associated with a Telangana government cultural scheme.

On Wednesday, June 25, police announced that they had arrested Anjali’s elder daughter, her boyfriend Pagilla Shiva Kumar (19), and his 17-year-old younger brother for the murder.

Balanagar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) K Suresh Kumar told the media that the accused daughter had met Shiva, an intermediate second-year student and a DJ operator who lives in Nalgonda, on Instagram. They had been in a relationship for about eight months, he said.

Earlier this month, the daughter went to visit Shiva and stayed with him for a few days from around June 8 to 12, the DCP said. After she returned, Anjali was upset with her.

Then, on June 19, the daughter once again left the home with Shiva. Anjali complained to the Jeedimetla police, who traced them and handed the daughter over to the mother the next day. After this, arguments ensued, and the daughter decided to kill her mother along with Shiva, the DCP said.

“Shiva brought his younger brother along, and strangled Anjali with a chunni,” Suresh Kumar said.

The daughter said that Anjali had hit her a few times as she objected to her relationship with Shiva, police said.

When she was in Class 7 too, the daughter had approached the police saying she didn’t want to stay with her mother and would prefer staying in a child welfare home, the DCP said.

Anjali’s elder sister Shobha, a resident of Gundlapochampally in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, lodged a complaint in the early hours of Monday, June 23, that Anjali was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Shapurnagar. The body was found lying in a supine position in the kitchen with ligature marks around the neck, indicating strangulation.

Anjali's younger daughter told police about the elder daughter’s relationship with Shiva, and how this led to frequent quarrels between mother and daughter.

Police investigations reportedly revealed that on the evening of June 23, the accused elder daughter sent her younger sister out and allegedly called Shiva and his brother into the house, who strangulated Anjali using a nylon chunni.

After the murder, the elder daughter locked the house and allegedly warned her younger sister not to speak. However, the child alerted her aunt, the complainant.

Police said the investigation revealed that the murder was pre-planned and motivated by Anjali’s opposition to her daughter’s relationship.
