The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has appealed to hoteliers and the management of all hotels to take precautionary measures and ensure certain specified standards for the preparation of Haleem for the ensuing Ramzan festival in the city.

Hyderabad Mayor Rammohan Naidu said that the GHMC is planning to award incentives to the best hotels for cleanliness and proper maintenance during this Ramzan festival.

“Preparation of haleem should be done in a very hygienic manner and the bhattis should be kept at the ground floor only, providing sufficient parking place at the hotels and ensuring that footpaths and other public places are not encroached, to avoid traffic congestions and inconvenience to the citizens during the 40 days of Ramzan festival,” the Mayor said.

He also directed all the hotel managements to procure meat from the GHMC slaughterhouses only and to strictly follow the guidelines which have been issues by the GHMC to take all fire safety, public safety measures and not throw garbage on the roads or in front of the hotels.

He also asked eateries to segregate the dry and wet waste separately for easy transportation to the garbage stations.

"Hyderabad city is very famous for its biryani, tea and haleem. Everyone should take proper care using good quality ingredients and take all preventive measures to keep the surroundings and the hotels neat and tidy," the Mayor siad.

Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin also appealed to the hotel managements to join hands with the GHMC to maintain proper cleanliness. He also said that the GHMC enforcement team with senior officials will undertake random inspections and those who are found guilty, will face severe action.

Dr Venkateshwar Reddy, Chief Veterinary Officer, gave a power point presentation about the precautionary measures to be taken while preparing haleem.

Hotel Owners and representatives from Pista House, Bawarchi, Hyline, Café Bahar, Red Rose and Telangana Hotels Association Chairman T. Nagaraj have also interacted with the officials and assured them that they will extend their full cooperation.

Several officials form the GHMC’s Veterinary wing, Health and Sanitation wing and Food Safety wing also participated in the meetings.
