Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said that he wishes to develop his constituency Kodangal by investing Rs 10,000 crore in the next five years.

Addressing a district-level preparatory meeting of the Congress party’s ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ campaign at his residence in Kodangal on Saturday, March 29, CM Revanth said, “The CM’s chair will be for Kodangal for the next 10 years. Let us develop Kodangal significantly in this period.” He said that development must take place to the extent that land prices increase by crores.

Revanth said that the opposition leaders were restless after power was transferred to Kodangal from Gajwel, Sircilla, and Siddipet, referring to the constituencies of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, his son KT Rama Rao, and nephew T Harish Rao. He alleged that the opposition has “hatched a conspiracy to destroy Kodangal.”

“The opposition is trying to provoke some people here and stop land acquisition by creating a stir. It is my responsibility to provide jobs to the families of those who lost their lands in the establishment of companies in Kodangal,” CM Revanth said.

Kodangal saw major protests last year over a proposal to develop a pharma cluster. In November 2024, several government officials were attacked by residents in Lagacharla village when they arrived to conduct a public hearing on land acquisition for the pharma cluster. The Congress government retaliated by arresting several protesters, alleging that they were acting at the behest of BRS leaders to destabilise the government.

Amid continued resistance to the pharma cluster due to concerns about pollution and fair compensation for loss of livelihoods, Revanth later declared that the pharma city plan was scrapped and instead, the government would set up an “industrial corridor” with “only pollution-free industries.”

Speaking at the Kodangal meeting on March 29, Revanth said, “In our region, people are migrating due to a lack of industrial development. This region will develop only by establishing industries… Our workers will take the responsibility of fencing Kodangal and protecting the constituency.”

The Congress party has called for a nationwide ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ campaign in retaliation to Union Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remarks on BR Ambedkar in the Parliament. In December 2024, speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Amit Shah had said that it had become a “fashion” these days to say Ambedkar’s name. “Had you [Congress] taken god’s name as many times, you would have gone to heaven by now,” he had said.

“We will hold meetings everywhere to protest the inappropriate comments made [by Amit Shah] against such a great leader,” CM Revanth said at the meeting.
