Former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader Harish Rao, on October 4, accused the Congress-led state government of failing to fulfil its election promises to minorities, farmers and poor families.
Speaking at a rights programme organised by the Telangana Turaka Kasha Welfare Association in Gajwel, he said Congress had promised to raise the minority budget to Rs 4,000 crore and implement a Minority Declaration. However, he claimed the government was spending only around Rs 1,300 crore.
Harish also alleged that support through the Minority Finance Corporation had declined and that its employees, along with Urdu Academy staff, had faced salary delays. He claimed that the BRS government had spent about Rs 1550 crore on overseas scholarships for minority students over 10 years, compared with around Rs 14 crore under Congress in the last three years.
Highlighting development in Gajwel, Harish credited former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) with addressing drinking water shortages and developing irrigation through projects including Kondapochamma Sagar and Mallanna Sagar.
He alleged that the Congress government was not lifting available Godavari water to Mallanna Sagar despite functioning infrastructure, calling it a “crisis created by the government”.
Harish also criticised the government over pending compensation to Mallanna Sagar project-affected families and delays in Kalyana Lakshmi payments. He said the BRS government had provided rehabilitation packages, including 250-square-yard plots and Rs 5.04 lakh for house construction, to displaced families.
Harish alleged that nearly two lakh Kalyana Lakshmi applications were pending and demanded their immediate clearance. He said Congress had promised Rs 1 lakh and one tola of gold but had failed to deliver the assistance on time.
