Following the expulsion of MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig from the party, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Sunday, August 30 appointed Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Mubeen as the in-charge of the Rajendranagar Assembly constituency.

“Mohammed Mubeen has been appointed as the in-charge of Rajendra Nagar Assembly Constituency. He is authorised to represent and undertake organisational work on behalf of AIMIM. All office-bearers and members of the constituency are requested to coordinate and communicate with Mohd. Mubeen Sahab regarding party organisational activities,” a statement from AIMIM said.

Mubeen is a first-time MLA who won in the 2023 Assembly polls from Bahadurpura constituency.

The AIMIM had expelled Mirza Rahmath Baig from the party on August 28 and asked him to immediately submit his resignation to the Chairman of the Legislative Council. The announcement came about after Baig approached the Cyber Crime police alleging that some unidentified persons had been threatening to release purported deep fake visuals of him to extort money.

Alongside Baig’s complaint, allegations that the MLC had sexually assaulted a minor girl began circulating online. Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao argued that an inquiry should be conducted into all allegations against Baig and strict action should be taken against him.

Baig was elected unopposed as an MLC in February 2023. He had contested the Assembly polls in Telangana from Rajendranagar in November 2023 but was defeated by T Prakash Goud, the candidate from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
