With almost all major political parties in the country trying to carve their space on social media platforms, the All India Majlis e Ittehad ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has become the first political party in India to have an officially verified account on TikTok, a social media app used to create and share videos. At present, TikTok has more than 200 million users in India and overtook Facebook as the most downloaded social media application in the first quarter of 2019.

Aimed at reaching out to the young audience through the popular social media app, the party’s official account has 7,000 followers and over 60,000 likes on around 75 videos uploaded on the app. The AIMIM, headquartered at Hyderabad, is headed by Asaduddin Owaisi, a Hyderabad MP, and his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi.

According to a press release issued by the AIMIM party, through the mobile-based social media app which gives a user an opportunity to share a message in a concise manner and make it funny at the same time, the party has decided to use it to reach to the young internet users and first time voters. The party already has a dedicated page on other social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, with the party chief posting regular political updates on both the mediums.

One of the videos uploaded by the party has the AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi inviting people to Darulsalam, the area where his party headquarters is located in Hyderabad. Our party’s doors are always open for everyone, irrespective of one’s religion and caste,” he says and also makes a sarcastic jibe on Narendra Modi’s ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ slogan.

The AIMIM account also has a lot of fans who have been sharing quirky videos, the most popular ones being lip-synced videos of Assadudin and Akbaruddin’s speeches.
