Telangana Government on Tuesday issued an order for detaining a Pakistani national, who has completed his sentence under the Official Secrets Act, until he is deported.
Following a request from Hyderabad police, the Government ordered detention of the Pakistani national Mohd Arshad Mahamood at the same Warangal Central Prison where he served his sentence.
A court on April 30, 2009, had convicted Mahamood, a businessman from Jethabhuta Bazar in Raheem Yar Khan district of Punjab in Pakistan, under the Foreigners Act and the section 3 of Official Secrets Act (`penalties for spying'), and sentenced him to 14 years' rigorous imprisonment.
He was lodged in Central Prison, Warangal. He was due to be released today after getting benefit of remission.
Hyderabad police commissioner had requested the state Government to issue necessary orders for detaining him till the arrangements of consular access for process of deportation were completed.
The Government Order was issued on Tuesday.
Once his identity is established by the Pakistan Government, he would be issued a one-way travel document by the Pakistan High Commission, it said.
