Actor and former professional wrestler Saurav Gurjar was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on Sunday, September 20, after Gachibowli police arrested him in connection with a woman’s complaint alleging sexual exploitation on the false promise of marriage.
According to a The Hindu report, Gurjar was intercepted by immigration officials at Mumbai airport on the night of September 17 after arriving from the Middle East. A Look Out Circular (LOC) had been issued against him in connection with the case. The Gachibowli police subsequently brought him to Hyderabad and produced him before a magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody on Sunday.
Gurjar was arrested at Mumbai airport on Sunday and was sent to 14 days of judicial remand based on a complaint filed by a 29-year-old woman. Gachibowli police had registered the case on August 15 charging him with the offence of having sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means.
The woman, according to her complaint, first became acquainted with Gurjar through Instagram in 2021. Their conversations subsequently moved to WhatsApp, and they developed a relationship. She alleged that they met in person for the first time on December 25, 2021. According to the complaint, Gurjar subsequently promised to marry her and assured her that she would have rights equivalent to those of a wife.
The woman also alleged that Gurjar persuaded her to quit her job in the United States after promising that they would start a business together. She added that the alleged harassment subsequently affected her ability to concentrate on her work. She also alleged that Gurjar would distance himself and block her phone number whenever she questioned him about marriage.
The woman further alleged that she and Gurjar lived together while she was in the US and continued living together after she returned to India.
Gurjar reportedly stayed with her from October 2025 to March 2026. She alleged that they subsequently continued living together in Hyderabad before he left without informing her.
Based on the complaint, Gachibowli police registered a case and began investigating the allegations.
Gurjar, 42, is known for his roles in television and films as well as his professional wrestling career. He made his acting debut as Bhima in Star Plus’ Mahabharat, which aired from 2013 to 2014. He later appeared in Sankatmochan Mahabali Hanuman and made his professional wrestling debut with WWE as ‘Sanga’ after appearing for tryouts in Dubai in 2017. Gurjar also appeared in the 2022 film Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, in which he played the antagonist Zor.
