Actor Allu Arjun filed a petition in the Telangana High Court on Wednesday, December 11, seeking to quash an FIR filed against him in connection with a tragic stampede that claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman, Revathi, during the premiere of his latest film, Pushpa 2: The Rule.
The incident occurred on December 4 at Sandhya Theatre, located at RTC Cross Roads in Hyderabad.
Chaos erupted when the actor unexpectedly arrived at the theatre, resulting in a stampede. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to control the mob.
According to the police, neither the theatre management nor the actor’s team had informed authorities about his visit, which led to the tragedy.
Revathi succumbed to injuries sustained during the melee, while her 9-year-old son remains hospitalised in critical condition.
Following a complaint lodged by Revathi’s husband, the Chikkadpally police registered a case against Allu Arjun and the theatre management under Sections 105 (culpable homicide) and 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
In connection with the case, three individuals associated with the theatre have already been arrested: M. Sandeep, a partner of the theatre; M. Nagaraju, the manager; and Sri Gandhakam Vijay Chander, the lower balcony in-charge.
The actor had earlier expressed regret over the incident and announced a financial assistance package of Rs 25 lakh for the aggrieved family.
