Then, why the partiality?This is the question that led to clashes between councilors of the AIADMK and the DMK in Coimbatore and Madurai after refusal to remove the convicted leader’s portrait adorning the council hall walls , reported Times of India.Mayor P. Rajkumar ‘s first council meet in Coimbatore turned hostile after DMK council mens attempted to place a portrait of their leader M Karunanidhi citing the presence of the former CM Jayalalithaa’s portrait.In Madurai, a similar incident took place with DMK councilmen demanding why the corporation resolution booklet carried a picture of Jayalalithaa, reported TOI.The scene turned ugly with councilor M Kesava Pandiammal hurling her handbag at DMK members. This led to other AIADMK councilmen throwing sweets and snacks at them, said the report. Soon after , DMK members staged a walkout. Councilmen even demanded an explanation as to why Karunanidhi's photo was removed from walls after AIADMK won the assembly elections, but former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's portraits still adorned the walls. Previous incidents have occured in the past in Trichy where portraits of Jayalalithaa were demanded to be removed and replaced with those of current CM O Panneerselvam.
