DMK working president MK Stalin’s recent political speech saw the leader make witty jibes about hoping to unseat the ruling AIADMK leaders by having coffee with them. The remark comes two days after he met Edappadi Palaniswami and O Pannerselvam and spoke out the state's policies. The DMK leader recalled how O Panneerselvam was ousted as Chief Minister in February 2017, a day after he met for coffee with Stalin.

“It wasn’t just Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who was present at the meeting this week. The Deputy Chief Minister OPS, and the Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaskar were also there. They asked me if I wanted tea or coffee. I remembered long back I had coffee with OPS once and next day he was unseated from the CM’s post. For smiling at me he lost his post. Now, tomorrow, I don’t know what their (ruling AIADMK leaders) condition is going to be. So I decided that I will sit for 15 minutes demand coffee or tea, drink it and then only leave,” he quipped to laughs and applause.

The controversy in question dates back to the OPS-Sasikala row after Sasikala accused OPS of being in cahoots with the DMK after she spotted him smiling at M K Stalin in the House during the Assembly Session.

“The leader of opposition and the Chief Minister was there looking at each other and smiling at each other in the House,” Sasikala said in an interview.

Rubbishing these allegations, OPS in an interview to TNM said that ‘Smiling is not a crime.”

Sasikala’s allegations came after the expelled CM accused her of forcing him to step down from his seat.

OPS is currently serving as the deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, whereas Sasikala has been serving a 4-year-jail sentence after being convicted in the Jayalalitha disproportionate assets case back in February 2017.
