The First Bench of the Madras High Court has temporarily asked for a neutral security force such as CISF to be stationed in the campus during the suo moto proceedings on Monday, mainly because of a strained relationship between the lawyers and the State police.
The bench headed by Chief Justice SK Kaul and Justice TS Sivagnanam said that an expert agency was required to keep the court away from external and internal disturbances, at least for six months.
Moreover, the bench has asked the state government and the Centre to submit reports related to this by October 30.
The bench said, “Lack of faith between lawyers and police is very much there. I do not want to close my eyes. Why should police think our views are reflection on their ability? Read our order, does it reflect anything on the police,” according to The New Indian Express report.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice said, “We definitely want an independent force. There is a clear lack of faith between the State police and lawyers. I am not blaming any party, but there is a problem certainly,” according to an NIE report.
Later on Monday, Tamil Nadu advocate general AL Somayaji said the court’s views were being politicised and the state government was against giving the court's security to the CISF, as told to The Times of India.
The suo moto proceedings were initiated after the September 14 protest by lawyers asking to make Tamil the court’s official language.
