Known to pride itself for maintaining honor and pride within its community, the clash between these entrenched values and newly found technology like televisions and mobile phones that the new generation is exposed to has created a difficult situation. When parents realize that their children are falling in love outside their caste, they get them married under age, said the report. Madurai has recorded 35 child marriages in its district this year until July. Men migrating from Usilmpatti to other areas for work get their girl children married soon, said the Deputy Superintendent, K Saravanakumar, according to the report.
