The News Minute | February 10, 2015 | 08.50 am ISTIt’s all getting heated up in Srirangam a few days ahead of the by-election to fill the seat vacated by AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa. Both the main Dravidian parties, the AIADMK and the DMK have lodged complaints against distribution of cash to voters, said The Hindu. If the DMK alleged that its rival, the AIADMK had distributed Rs. 2,000 to each voter on Monday the AIADMK in return alleged that the DMK had distributed a number of items like saris, dhotis , liquor, gifts apart from liquor and cash, said the report. According to DMK’s allegations, teams formed by the AIADMK were such as to cover every 50 voters in the constituency. The district election officer K S Palanisamy then warned all those involved in giving and accepting bribes that legal action would be taken against them under section 171(b) of the IPC, reported Times of India .The complaints have been reported despite crackdown on election bribing by officials ahead of the Srirangam polls.
