Following the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, three days after military tensions escalated, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and defence officials stated that while India would honour the agreement, the Armed Forces remain “fully prepared to defend the nation’s sovereignty against any future misadventures by Pakistan.”
In the military briefing on the evening of May 10, Commodore Raghu R Nair said the country’s armed forces were ready for any future action. “While we will adhere to the understanding reached today, we remain fully prepared and ever vigilant and committed to defending the sovereignty and integrity of the motherland. Every misadventure by Pakistan has been met with strength, and every future escalation will be met with a decisive response.”
Earlier today, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had stated that the ceasefire was agreed upon after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called on his Indian counterpart at 3.35 pm. “It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 17:00 hours Indian Standard Time,” Misri had said.
Addressing the briefing, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi said that Pakistan had heavily resorted to a misinformation campaign against India. They even claimed that it had damaged India's S400 and BrahMos missile base with its JF-17, she said.
“Secondly, they also ran a misinformation campaign that our airfields in Sirsa, Jammu, Pathankot, Bhatinda, Nalia and Bhurj were damaged,” Qureshi added, noting that this was not true.
“According to Pakistan's misinformation campaign, our ammunition depot in Chandigarh and Beas was damaged, which is also completely wrong. Pakistan made false allegations that the Indian Army damaged mosques. I want to make it very clear that India is a secular nation, and our army is a very beautiful reflection of the constitutional values of India," she stated.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said: "In the highest regard, our operations have been aimed exclusively at terrorist camps and facilities being used for anti-India activities. No religious sites have been targeted by the Indian Armed forces…”
Vyomika Singh also said two Pakistani military personnel were injured in its attack across the Line of Control (LoC). “Across LoC, extensive and precise damage to military installations and Command centres and logistic installations, along with two military personnel, led to complete breakdown of its defensive and offensive capability,” she said.
Commodore Raghu R Nair said, " There has been an understanding that has been reached to stop all military activities at sea, on the air and on land. Indian army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Forces have been instructed to adhere to this understanding..."
