The News Minute | June 24, 2014 | 04:45 pm IST Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been served an arrest warrant by a court in Ananthpur, Andhra Pradesh. The warrant is for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. The court issued the warrant because Dhoni failed to appear in the court despite being served three summons. The court has directed the police to present Dhoni on July 16.The case relates to a picture of Dhoni which appeared in 2013 in the cover of the 2013 April edition of Business Today which depicts the cricketer as Lord Vishnu. The cover said “God of Big Deals” and showed Dhoni as Lord Vishnu with eight hands, each carrying a brand that the cricketer endorses – Lays, Pepsi etc. He held a shoe in one of the hands too.Y Shyam Sunder, a local leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), filed a petition in the court in February this year alleging that the cricketer “hurt the Hindu sentiments by denigrating a Hindu god”.Reports say that similar petitions against Dhoni were filed in Delhi, Pune and other cities.
