Security forces killed yet another senior Maoist leader Sudhakar, also known as Narsimhachalam or Goutham, in the forests of Bijapur, Chhattisgarh on Thursday, June 5.  Sudhakar was a member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist)’s Central Committee. He was 67.

Sudhakar was killed two weeks after one of the most important leaders of the Maoist movement, party general secretary Basavaraju, was killed in Chhattisgarh on May 21.

Several individuals, who the government claims to be Maoists, have been killed in recent months amid an anti-Maoist crackdown in Chhattisgarh by the Union government. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that the Modi government “is resolved to eliminate Naxalism” before March 31, 2026.

Inspector General (IG) of Bastar Range, Sundarraj Pattilingam confirmed Sudhakar’s death in the National Park area of Bijapur on June 5.

Sudhakar was born in Andhra Pradesh in Chintalapudi, which now falls under Eluru district. He joined the Maoist movement around 1985, according to Eenadu.

He was reportedly heading the Maoist party’s tech team and its Regional Political School that trained new cadres on the party’s ideology.

He also participated in peace talks with the Andhra Pradesh government in 2004 in Hyderabad, when YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister.

A joint team comprising personnel from the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, and CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) carried out the anti-Maoist operation on June 5 in which Sudhakar was killed.

According to a statement from the Bastar police, so far in 2025, the dead bodies of 186 Maoist cadres have been recovered in the Bastar Range.
