The News Minute | December 5, 2014 | 9:25 am ISTThe Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited claims that it has come out with a surprising revelation about where The Times of India gets some of its ads for the classified section. DC claims that TOI publishes ads for free by lifting it from the classified section of the Deccan Chronicle.An article by Deccan Chronicle titled “ToI-ing with the readers” has a series of pictures which show, ads that appeared in the TOI a few days after they appeared in DC, with DC’s name, CA codes and box numbers which are unique to the newspaper. The DC also has letters from readers where they acknowledge that they only advertised in the DC and not in TOI even though their ad was published in the both the papers.Deccan Chronicle also made some snide remarks hinting at paid content in the TOI with statements like “Ask the movie industry how much it pays to get good reviews and lead stories!”A Criminal Complaint was filed by Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited by the advocate before the court under Indian Penal Code Sections 120B, 379 and 467 and an FIR was registered thereafter.DC also claims that from early January 2013 to somewhere in June some 1,000-odd classified ads that appeared in the DC also landed in The Times of India a few days later. DC goes on to call this act “Yellow advertising” and claims that TOI owes cops, the courts, the readers and DC an explanation for the act.Read Why 2014 is not a good year for The Times of India
