The News Minute| March 7, 2015| 10.54 am ISTSpeaker of Kerala assembly and veteran Congress leader G Karthikeyan passed away in Bengaluru on Saturday after prolonged illness.He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city, and had been on ventilator for a week.A six time Member of Kerala Legislative Assembly, Karthikeyan represented the Aruvikkara assembly constituency from Thiruvananthapuram.Born in 1949, Karthikeyan entered politics as a student leader of the Kerala Students Union (KSU).His growth in the political circle was gradual. From being a student cadre, he became KSU head in the state and became a prominent face of the Youth Congress.A leader known to love movies, Karthikeyan has said time and again that many chapters in his life was worth to be part of movies.A Karunakaran loyalist, he was first elected to the assembly in 1982, and has served as Minister for Electricity in the Ministry headed by A.K. Antony in 1995 and was the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies in the A.K. Antony Ministry in 2001.AK Antony reacted to Karthikeyan's demise and called his death a big blow personally and to the Congress in Kerala
