A petition filed by activist SC Agarwal asks the government to take back the Padma Shri award from Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan.
Agarwal had filed a complaint in March this year with the Union Home Ministry. In his petition he argued that Khan should not retain the award any more because in 2012 a Mumbai court had charged him with assaulting an Indian businessman from South Africa at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai. The union ministry is said to be looking into the case, states a report by NDTV.
Khan was awarded with the fourth highest civilian honour in India in 2010, which was conferred to him by then President Pratibha Patil, for his contribution as an artist.
The report further states that the actor also faces criminal charges in Rajasthan for allegedly hunting a blackbuck in 1998 during a film shoot.
