Madhavi Pothukuchi and Nitin B| The News Minute | December 22, 2014 | 4:45 pm ISTFor the Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu, outrageous statements bordering sensationalism on various issues and constant lashing out at each other has been a familiar phenomenon for people in this once-united state. Directed not just at each other, the statements once broken down sound more like “punch†dialogues in a movie rather than statements made by representatives of the people, elected to govern a state.Though the CMs have seen peace and even been good friends when KCR was in the TDP along with Naidu till 2001, the two leaders drifted apart on their views and the end result is for everyone to see. The two chief ministers seem to have not spared any issue and have made statements about everything under the sun. The battle of words between the two chief ministers however, is probably where most of the fuel for the local media comes from; with KCR and Naidu attacking and defending their statements against each other. From short insulting one liners to entire speeches bordering along the “hate†category, the people of the two states have witnessed the two chief ministers fight over various issues like power, water and even the renaming of an airport. Here are some of them.“You (Naidu) will burn yourself, if you play with fire. We are going to drag you to Supreme Court on the water/power issue†– KCR“Just because the TDP has decided that it will work towards the development of the state, you (TRS) cannot throw mud in our faces and try and create hate towards us to garner votes; that is a bad attitude†- Naidu“You are the worst chief minister in the country. You come across as Satan for Telangana. You are a ghost that engulfed Telangana. You are wreaking vengeance against people of the state. You are a deceiver. You are a cheat. You violated all the stipulations of AP Reorganisation Act. You are a liar… Are Srisailam and Krishnapatnam your father’s estate? (nee ayya jagir aa?) What is your bossism over those projects? You want the people and families in Telangana to wilt and the TRS government to become unpopular." –KCR“You (KCR) blame everything that goes wrong on me. If you don’t have electricity, it’s my fault; if you don’t have water, it’s my fault. Take responsibility for your (lack of) actions†- Naidu“If one were to mix cheating, betrayal and similar characteristics, you get the meaning of Chandrababu Naidu†- KCRKnown for his frequent outbursts and jaw dropping statements, K Chandrasekhar Rao’s most famous ‘punch dialogue’ was of course against his very own media.KCR in a fit of rage after a TV 9 aired a satire program mocking the CM and the functioning of the TRS government said, “If anybody tries to denigrate or hurt the self-respect of Telangana, Telangana Assembly or Telangana culture, we will break their necks. Be careful. Beware or else we will bury you 10km (under the earth)"In 2004, KCR (then union minister) said that if the Congress went back on its promise of Telangana "we will drag even Sonia Gandhi and Rajasekhara Reddy to the bazaar." This led to a sharp reaction from party leaders in the State. The Telangana CM, defending his decision to hold a Rs. 20-crore, day-long survey compared himself to Hitler, and claimed that he would go to any extent to stop illegalities, while addressing the media said ''I am a Hitler and I will be worse than Hitler if need be, to stop illegalities"His statement immediately became an internet sensation with Times Now creating a hash tag on twitter, titled #HitlerCMRead: Four things that KCR must be wishing he never saidChandrababu Naidu, the former chief minister of erstwhile AP (1995-2004) and the current CM of AP after the bifurcation, is comparatively more cautious and diplomatic but that has not stopped him from making some statements either. In October last year, Naidu lashing out against the Congress had said, “Has the government been functioning in the state for the last one year? Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy is a puppet in the hands of Sonia Gandhi and he is just dancing to her tunesâ€Chandrababu Naidu threatened opposition party leader Jagan Reddy in the AP assembly, during the long debate of whether Telangana should form a separate state that “If this state does not work the way I dictate it, you will not have the right to stay in this state anymore, let me tell you!†In the same discussion, he also said to Jagan that “You play sick mind games, I can also do so. I have the ability to play the same mind games in one minute, so be carefulâ€Also read: What's going on with the TDP's Facebook page?Where they get their inspiration to make such “sensational†statements - as the local media loves to term it, is beyond our grasp. However, if one were to look at things in a more humorous view, the statements once broken down, to be more like “punch†dialogues in a movie rather than statements made by representatives of the people, elected to govern a state.Tweet
