Biswajeet Banerjee | The News Minute | July 23, 2014 | 08:49 am ISTThe probe into the brutal murder of a widow last week in a state-run primary school at the outskirt of Lucknow now centers around “kidneys” after post mortem report claimed that the victim had both the kidneys intact while the family members and the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute (SGPGI) of Medical Sciences claim that she had actually donated kidney to her ailing husband three years back. The revelation has raised a big question mark over the post-mortem report forcing Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to order a probe into the mystery. In a directive Yadav has asked Director General (DG), Medical and Health and DG Medical education to carry out a probe to ascertain the validity of the post-mortem report vis-à-vis kidney.“The records of the SGPGI should also be checked to know whether the widow had actually donated kidney,” Yadav said during a meeting. The two DGs have been asked to go check the video of the post mortem and submit its report at the earliest. The post mortem report says that the widow had both the kidneys. The SGPGI doctors say that they have documentary proof to show that the widow had undergone renal transplant. Medical Superintendent SGPGI Dr Rakesh Kapoor said there was no question of erroneous reporting.“We do not want to comment on post-mortem report but our records suggest that kidney transplant surgery was performed on October 20, 2011 and the victim had donated her left kidney to the donor – in this case her husband,” he said. The SGPGI has submitted its documentary proof along with CD to the district administration DIG, Lucknow Navneet Sikera, who is facing heat over the police claim of having solved the case said if the post mortem report is found to be incorrect action would be taken against the doctors. The police have arrested the accused Ram Sewak Yadav saying he had brutally killed the woman. Not convinced by the police theory, family members of the woman and opposition parties have demanded a CBI probe into the incident.“Why is government shying away from the CBI probe,” asks BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak .” The Uttar Pradesh Government should hand over the probe to central investigating agency. The family members of the deceased are asking for it. The opposition parties have doubt over UP police probe. Even former UP Governor Dr Aziz Qureshi has aired doubts about police theory. It is better for the Akhilesh Government to hand over the probe to CBI,’ Pathak said. The 32-year-old widow was brutally murdered on the night of July 16 after she resisted an alleged rape bid. She is survived by two children - a daughter and a son.
