

The Government of India may not be as responsive to some of its citizens’ other needs – such as food, housing, water, health – but it definitely listens when evolutionary instincts make themselves heard in the virtual world.Coming under fire for having banned pornography websites under the pretext of cracking down on child pornography, the central government has now done the best damage control it could – put the onus of blocking child pornographic content on internet service providers.Late on Tuesday, Mint reported, senior officials in the Department of Telecommunications and minister Ravi Shankar Prasad changed their stance on the ban, and instead asked internet service providers (ISP) to filter child pornographic content.The government of India had on Sunday blocked over 800 porn websites in India.Read: Here is a full list of all the porn websites blocked by the governmentOn Wednesday however, the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI) wrote to the DoT, saying that ISPs would continue to block the 857 websites listed by the government as the order issued by the government was vague and that ISPs could not filter out content selectively.
