A day after Kerala High Court refused to intervene; the Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany has called for banning the ‘kiss of love’ event and he may join a parallel protest which will be organized by Kerala Students Union (KSU)

“Protests like this should be banned. It is a cultural and moral compromise. Though I condemn the Yuva Morcha attack on the Kozhikode hotel, I don’t think the culture of public kissing should be encouraged. Such things will not be allowed in Kochi,” the Mayor told The New Indian Express. The report says that literary critic M Leelavathi is also likely to join this parallel protest.

However the organizers stress in their facebook posts that “it is not a “kiss fest" but a gathering of likeminded people to raise awareness against moral policing”

Meanwhile organizers of ‘Kiss of Love’ said that they will go ahead with this event without the police permission. “We requested for permission from the police one week prior but we are yet to get it” said Rahul Pasupalan, organizer of Kiss of Love to The News Minute
