 Twin back-to-back train derailment took place at the same spot in Madhya Pradesh around midnight on Tuesday, with several bogies and engines of Varanasi-bound Kamayani Express and Mumbai-bound Janata Express falling into a swollen river. Seven coaches of the Kamayani Express and three coaches along with the engine of Janata Express reportedly derailed. Around 40 people have been injured and over 300 were rescued, reports NDTV.So far 29 deaths resulting from the mishap have been reported, states a report by The Hindu. The Railways have announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased, Rs 50,000 to persons who have been grievously injured and Rs 25,000 to those who have sustained minor injuries.  Due to the derailment, several trains have also been diverted from the tracks. Railway Board Chairman A.K. Mittal told the paper, "According to reports, there was a possible burst in a nearby dam, which caused sudden flow of water on the tracks and that resulted in the derailment."Mittal told NDTV that the tracks were safe even 10 minutes before the accident took place and many trains had passed safely. I.B. Siddiqui, a spokesperson for the West Central Railway, said that Janata Express also derailed within minutes of the first accident while crossing the same bridge over the Machak river.
