Here are five times when Saina Nehwal made us proud

It was heartbreak for Saina Nehwal and her fans as the Indian badminton ace lost the women's singles final to Spanish top seed and title holder Carolina Marin to settle for the silver at the World Championships here on Sunday.    Both shuttlers displayed brilliant athleticism but when it came to winning the long rallies and points at the net, the top seed proved far better than the Indian.    However, the 25-year old still is the first Indian to win a silver at the World meet. Here are five times Saina had made us proud.   1. World Junior Badminton Championship   Saina turned pro in 2006 and after two years of training, she became the first Indian woman to win the World Junior Badminton Championships which was held in Pune in 2008.   Saina beat Japanese rival Sayaka Sato 21-9 21-18 in just 25 minutes. Her performance was reportedly so convincing that her former coach Pullela Gopichand claimed that Saina played like a champion all through the tournament.   2. Indonesian Super Series tournament   One year after winning in the junior league, in 2009, Saina became  the first Indian to win a Super Series tournament when she lifted the Indonesian Super Series Open cup.    Saina clinched her maiden Super Series title defeating Chinese Lin Wang in Jakarta 12-21, 21-18, 21-9 in a game that lasted 49 minutes.   3. London Summer Olympics 2012   Fast forward to 2012 and Saina's bronze medal at the London Summer Olympics was perhaps one of the most defining moments of her career.   Despite making it to the quarter-finals in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, her 2012 feat saw the first singles medal by an Indian badminton player in the Olympics event.     (Saina Nehwal after winning the bronze medal. All England Badminton Championship   Despite losing in the game that would have made her the first Indian woman to win the prestigious All England badminton championship, Saina Nehwal reaching the finals, was a proud moment in itself for the country.   Then world number three,  Saina lost to Spain's Carolina Maron. Her long-time coach Pullella Gopichand and Prakash Padukone, are the only Indians who won the prestigious title in the past.   5. World ranking number one   Saina Nehwal on March 28, got her name into history books after becoming the first Indian woman shuttler to clinch the world No. 1 ranking in women's singles.     She had won against All England badminton champion Carolina Marin in the first semifinal of the India Open Super Series.
