Five men have been convicted in the 2010 kidnapping and gang-rape case of a call centre employee in Dhaula Kuan locality of South Delhi.

The Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat on Tuesday convicted Shamshad alias Khutkan, Usman alias Kale, Shahid alias Chhota Billi, Iqbal alias Bada Billi and Kamruddin on charges of abducting and raping a 30 year-old employee who hails from the North East.

The quantum of sentence for the five will be given on October 17.

On November 24, 2010, the five men gang raped the woman in Mongolpuri area in Delhi. On Dec 2, two of the five accused, Shamshad alias Khutkan and Usman alias Kale from Haryana were arrested.

The survivor identified the two in a test-identification parade at the Tihar jail on Dec 4, 2010.

On the same day, the third accused Iqbal alias Bada Billi was arrested.

The next day, Dec 5, 2010, another accused Shahid alias Chhota Billi, who had surrendered to the police in relation to another case was arrested.

On Dec 6,2010 the fifth accused, Kamruddin was picked up from Haryana. 

On Feb 2, 2011, police filed a complaint and on August 3, the court framed charges against the accused.

The final arguments were completed regarding the case on June 2, 2014. 

The men after their arrests even said that they had been falsely implicated in the case. After the incident, orders were given to all BPOs in Delhi and the National Capital Region to drop their women employees at their homes after shifts.
