Indian Test cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has announced his retirement from the test format of the game after the third test of the Border- Gavaskar trophy in Australia.
Citing reasons for retirement to strain from playing all formats of the game, this new development will mean that Virat Kohli will captain the Indian side for the fourth and final test against Australia to begin on January 6, 2015, according to BCCI.
"One of India's greatest Test Captains under whose leadership India became the No. 1 team in the Test Rankings MS Dhoni, has decided to retire from Test Cricket citing the strain of playing all formats of Cricket," said BCCI in its statement.
The captain made no indication of his decision at the post-match press conference. However, the decision was made a little while after in a press release by the BCCI
The team which is now playing the Border-Gavaskar trophy in Australia lost the trophy after a draw in the third test on Tuesday.
