The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the Communist Party of India (CPI) have extended support to ‘Operation Sindoor’, the retaliatory strikes of Indian Armed Forces reportedly targeting nine terrorist camps across the border in Pakistan. While backing the operation, both parties emphasised the importance of national unity and urged the Union government to uphold the country’s integrity during this critical juncture.

‘Operation Sindoor’ was carried out during the wee hours of May 7, in retaliation for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that killed at least 27 people.

The CPI(M), in its statement, stressed the need for sustained pressure on Pakistan. “Along with these actions, pressure should be continued on Pakistan to hand over those responsible for the massacre of innocent people in Pahalgam and to ensure that no terrorist camps operate from its territory,” the party said.

CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP and parliamentary party leader John Brittas also echoed his support for the Armed Forces’ response. “These are precision strikes at terror camps so as not to escalate the situation. India has acted decisively to deter cross-border terror. Congrats to our Armed Forces,” he said.

In a press release, the CPI stated that India had responded firmly to the origins of such acts of terror. “The targeted nature of the strikes – avoiding Pakistani military assets and focusing solely on terrorist infrastructure – demonstrates a calibrated and non-escalatory approach, prioritising accountability without provoking full-scale conflict,” the statement read.

The CPI also urged the Union government to convene an all-party meeting immediately to strengthen national consensus and collective resolve in the fight against terrorism. “We reiterate the importance of pursuing diplomatic avenues to prevent further escalation and preserve peace in our region and also to arrive at political solutions,” the press statement said.

The party also called on Pakistan to take responsibility. “We also call upon the Government of Pakistan, which itself has suffered from the scourge of terrorism, to dismantle all terror networks operating from its soil. Only a joint regional resolve can end the cycle of violence and ensure long-term peace and security for our peoples,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju announced that the Union government has called an all party leaders meeting at 11 am on May 8 in the Parliament building.
