The News Minute | August 28, 2014 | 07:41 am ISTBangalore: It happens without fail and so systematically that you wonder why you wonder. The latest gush of desert storm to hit New Delhi is about L’affaire Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister, and whether his son Pankaj Singh was the alleged recipient of some speed money. As the story spread in early August, several versions emerged, the most tenable one being that the Prime Minister, getting wind of the deal, summoned Rajnath’s son and pulled him up in no uncertain terms and left him off with a warning. Rajnath Singh invited himself to the meeting for moral support and after that quick meeting it was supposed to be kissa khatam. Alas, that was not to be. A few days later Rajnath Singh found that his wings had been slightly clipped in the appointment of senior bureaucrats and he was increasingly seen as a star in the Advani camp for which the Modi camp has little love. The last straw sources tell The News Minute (TNM) was when Pankaj Singh was refused a ticket for the by poll in Noida later in September. That has also got to do with Modi not encouraging family members of politicians to be allotted seats or positions – Vasundhara Raje’s son and Maneka Gandhi’s also did not find any succor. Shorn of diplomacy Modi’s gates were beginning to shut for Singh who many say may have shot himself in the foot by taking what was another Delhi rumour to the media himself playing victim and wowing to leave politics if anything was proved against him or any members of his family. There still is no evidence if the transaction between the said briber and the minister’s son took place, but the cover up of the rumour was a clumsy one. The Advani camp in the BJP now needs a leader and Rajnath’s name is already sent there. We are still digging for information and ferreting out information which we will bring to our readers as soon as possible. At time of writing, it looks to us that Rajnath Singh may not have many cards left to play. Read: Rajnath Singh and his son’s alleged bribe: The trajectory of a rumour
