The News Minute | January 16, 2015 | 9.40 AM ISTChairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Leela Samson resigned on Friday citing interference, coercion and corruption. The immediate reason for her resignation was following the approval of the chief of Dera Saccha Sauda's Messenger of God movie by the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT). The movie had been stalled by the CBFC earlier. "It is a mockery of Central Board of Film Certification. My resignation is final. Have informed the [I&B] Secretary,†she told PTI. However, the Dera Sacha Saudha told news channels that they did not apply any pressure on the censor board, it was public pressure.Leela Samson told that it was becoming impossible to manage a board that had not met for nine months, and had “no funds to permit the meeting of members.†She also cited “interference†of the Information and Broadcasting ministry in the board’s work and corruption among the panel members and officers of the board who were appointed by the ministry. She also said that the additional charge that was given to a CEO in the board led to “degradation of values†that the board had stood for. The term of all members of the board including Samson’s had ended but the new government had given them an extension till they could find new members. Samson was appointed as the board’s chairperson in March 2011. Leela Samson is Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, instructor and author.
