Barfi’s Blog on judicial rot, the deep nexus between judges and political parties

It is a vicious circle that is destroying this country. It is a business where I grant you bail and you make me governor, ambassador, judge, special rapporteur to the UN.

Dear citizens of our motherland. Hope you are well. I am in the same well.

Today, I stand before you, not as a judge, judged or as jury, but as a simple man whose conscience prohibits him from remaining silent for another minute. While I am sworn to secrecy and will carry many deep and dark secrets with me to my grave, there are a few skeletons I want to present to you before they tumble out of the cupboard without my knowledge.

I am deeply disturbed by politicians meddling with the judiciary. Some do it privately, others do it publicly, and yet others get into public-private partnerships - but they all do it. Before you think I am angling for any job, let me assure you that never have I sought, nor will I seek any favour in my life. No, I don’t want to be the Governor of any state, southern states included. Yes, I have been in the same job for three years, but it never occurred to me talk about all this before.

So, back to what I was saying, dunce upon a time, there lived a nice lady in a southern state. She was kind to me, very kind and she is a very pious lady. She even invited me to her house and I had to wait only for six hours to see her. Most wait for a lifetime and miss her. She never interfered in any process, she was always respectful and once she called me Sir. Once she also said Your Honour to which I replied, yes, Your Highness. You see, it was that kind of a relationship. She held the judiciary in great respect. And of course I knew this for many years, but I thought now is the appropriate time to praise her.

It is also my sad duty to inform you that I cannot say the same about someone else in that state. There is a man in that same state who wears dark glasses, a white dhoti and yellow shawl. He speaks in a foreign tongue and currently he is out of power. I cannot say anything more about his identity, as I am sworn to secrecy.

Now this man is very meddlesome. He applied tremendous pressure on me from all sides, asked me to appoint judges who never showed up in court, yet wanted to pack the Madras High Court with their men, spies and bandicoots. But I can assure you, I never relented.

It is these same allied evil forces who met a Prime Minister at the airport just as he was leaving for a foreign tour to stress that a corrupt judge had to be accommodated failing which there would be no accommodation in Delhi for the Prime Minister when he returned. Poor PM, shook like a leaf. I cannot name the PM but this much I can say – he is old and wears a blue turban and was head of the Indian government for the past 10 years, till May, 2014.

All that I can reveal are the names of three corrupt Chief Justices (Do refer to me earlier blog) I cannot reveal the name of the corrupt judge or the politicians. Did I tell you the judge is no more, there is no point naming him as there can’t be an enquiry and swift justice. I don’t want to name the allied part or the minister too (What if they sue me? Or what if they come back to power?)

But there is evil out there. Lot of it and we know who they are.

I cannot take names, but remember a judge said in an open court that a Cabinet Minister had called him and threatened him? (Though I can’t name anyone- just Google “Justice Reghupathy threat”)

It is a vicious circle that is destroying this country. It is a business where I grant you bail and you make me governor, ambassador, judge, special rapporteur to the UN.

Now that I have been this forthright, people are asking why I remained silent till now. Elementary, dear Pankajam – it takes a mature mind and distance to sift fact from fiction and pour out one’s heart, like filter coffee.

There is absolutely no quid-pro-quo involved in my outpouring. I don’t know what’s happening with the court cases against the lady in an adjoining state.

I don’t know if I am being used by that man in cooling glasses who escaped the cooler, I don’t know if I am being used by a political party in India which massively lost an election or another which massively won.

Yes, I could have chosen to name everyone and create a real issue. A real movement against the rot in judiciary, but I am sworn to secrecy you see.

In fact, I don’t know when my current job ends, I will have electricity and water in my office as both are in short supply in Delhi. This may be my last message.

I just know I have to write more blogs.
