The Army apologised for killing the two Kashmiri civilians, including a 14-year-old boy and accepted its mistake for not accessing the situation properly.
“I admit that a mistake has happened, otherwise why would two civilian boys be killed like this,” Lt. General D.S. Hooda, Commanding-in-chief of the Northern Command informed the media.
They announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh for the deceased and five lakh for the injured boys. However, the father of one of the boys who was killed, angrily said, “The blood of my 14-year-old son is not so cheap.”
“I reject this compensation. I will pay Rs. 20 lakh to the Army if it hands over my son’s murderers to us,” Mohammad Yousuf Bhat told The Hindu . There has been no response to the Army announcement from the family of the other youth or those injured in the shooting or their families, so far.
