The Aam Aadmi Party had demanded a CBI inquiry into the deaths of two Dali youths in an encounter in Ludhiana district.
According to a report in The Hindu, Harinder and Jatinder Singh who were brothers, were shot dead allegedly by an Akali Dal leader and in the presence of the police. Police had initially claimed that the two had died in an encounter, but were later exposed. The Superintendent of Police has been suspended.
The incident took place on September 27 in Jamalpur village and a four member fact-finding team of the Aam Aadmi Party visited the village. On Saturday, the team held a press conference, claiming that the two brothers were seen as a threat to the power of the local elite who were backed by the ruling Akali Dal.
The brothers had asked the local landlord to return their land which he was cultivating without paying rent. The landlord refused to return the land and instead filed cases against the duo.
